Smart View 11.1.2.5.500 Released

Oracle has released Smart View version 11.1.2.5.500 yesterday. I haven't had a chance to test the release yet but according to the documentation the biggest changes in this release are:
  • Support for HFM journals: view journal properties, create, edit, submit, approve, post, unpost, and delete journals. HFM version 11.1.2.4.100 is required to use this new functionality.
  • Extended support for Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition (OBIEE): multiple connections now supported. OBIEE patch 11.1.1.7.140527 is required.
Read full details and download the patch from Oracle Support: Patch 21635725: Patch Set Update: 11.1.2.5.500 for Oracle Smart View for Office. When upgrading from SV 11.1.2.x you can simply run the installer to upgrade the add-in (no need to uninstall the older version first). And as usual, please share your experiences if you try this version in your EPM environments!

  1. We downloaded 11.1.2.5.500 for Oracle Smart View for Office and are currently using it with HFM 11.1.2.4.100, yet there is a timeout issue after 10 mins where you get the error message EPMHFM: 7274 and then you have to close excel (yes, it does not let you sign back in) and reopen to reconnect. There is a timeout setting that can be extended to Oracle recommendation of 1 hour as below, yet we extended it to 4 hours or 14400000 milliseconds.

Go to Consolidation Administration -->System --> Settings ,
++ Update the value for the parameter "SessionManagerTimeoutInMS" As 3600000 instead of 1200000.
    ++ Restart HFM services .

    1. Yes, this is indeed a useful setting! Note that it's only available once you apply HFM PSU 11.1.2.4.100.

    2. Did you notice that such a setting has been deprecated in HFM 11.1.2.4.101 and 102?
And now, it's not possible to download HFM patch 100. So it's impossible to modify the smartview timeout.

    3. But in the 200 it has been added again :)

  2. I'm not seeing versions for 32 and 64 bit. Did they merge these finally? (or was I in too much of a rush and missed something?) :)

    1. Yes, the recent Smart View versions use a single installer that detects your MS Office architecture (32 or 64 bit) automatically and installs the correct version for you.

  3. I am unable to connect to a 11.1.2.4 hfmoffice provider url via smartview.
I'm using http:///hfmofficeprovider/hfmofficeprovider.aspx the same url syntax I used in 11.1.2.3 versions.

Taking in consideration that hfm is now IIS independent did the hfmofficeprovider url change as well?

Note: I understood that the hfmofficeprovider now is hosted on web-logic (correct me if I'm wrong), web logic is running as both shared services and workspace are functional.

    1. The private connection URL has indeed changed in 11.1.2.4. You can see the full list in the Smart View 11.1.2.5.500 User Guide but for HFM applications it is: http(s)://servername:port/hfmadf/../hfmadf/officeprovider

    2. Thanks for the clarification, it solved my problem

    3. Is there any particular reason why we have to use:

      /hfmadf/../hfmadf/officeprovider

      vs.

      /hfmadf/officeprovider

To me, it is saying the same location. Can't understand why you would need "/../" to go to the parent directory only to go back into the same child directory.
